Junior Teach Yourself
The Junior Teach Yourself series was first printed in 1949. On the front inside flap of the wrapper there was printed a rationale for the series:
"All of these books were planned to interest, amuse and help boys and girls to get the most out of their own [particular interest. They have been specially written and illustrated for this series by experts in each particular subject. They make the ideal present to a boy or girl who is known to be keen on any of the subjects."
Titles in 1960 were listed as :-
Ballet, British Railways, Camping, Dogs as pets, Gardening, Geography, Glove puppetry, Handicrafts, Knitting, Modelmaking, Needlework, The orchestra, Photography, Radio, Riding, Sailing and small boats, Stamp collecting, Soccer, The seashore, Woodwork (21 titles)
Cookery was omitted from this list but was listed in a 1957 listing.
This Junior Teach Yourself series was discontinued in 1968 but some of them re-emerged in the Illustrated Teach Yourself Series. Examples include Camping, Riding, Radio, Photography, Dogs as pets.
